After discovering the impostor who delivered the device that assassinated King Noren tiKalloban, as well as the little bit of information that the party was able to get out of him, the party was left with more questions. Yet, they knew that if they ignored the leads that they already had, it could lead to an endless spiral of questions that only lead to more questions and not answers. So with this they decided to rest for the night and proceed to the capital of Ancuan, Glavis, in the morning.
The morning greeted them with yet another who was assigned the task by Lord Fidelius Crenwick, a woman by the name of
placeholder for Monique’s character. By this point Orinda began to question Fidelius’ commitment to keeping the king’s death a secret, yet she held her tongue on the matter. They were then escorted to the room of the former Queen Yvis tiKalloban and were let inside, but without the guards entering with them. Inside they found a disused room, persevered from a time in which the Queen had used it. Inside the cabinet that Fidelius told them about was a mirror-like piece of numenera that had a surface like a vertical pool of black ink. After examining it for some time Orinda decided that it was time that someone took the plunge into it. As [[:phaedre delanny|Phaedre]] was in front of her and still, in Orinda‘s mind, a bit expendable, she decided to push her in. Unfortunately, she underestimated [[:Phaedre Delanny|Phaedre]]’s reflexes and was dragged through the mirror as well. On the other side was another disused room, with furniture covered in cloth, and surfaces covered in dust. Eventually Tawnos joined the two of them. After waiting for some time, Orinda passed through the portal once more to retrieve the other two members of her party.
Leaving the room after a very short while, a quick search was able to find a pair of guards, that with little coaxing, and probably more deception than was necessary, lead them to the King of Ancuan. Again the party decided that skirting around the issue was the best choice. This did not really accomplish much, as King Horra Asour-Mantir himself seemed to understand the situation, and what was needed. He gave the party a letter, as well as another glass of secrets, both of which were sent to him by Noren many years prior, and listened to the meager details that the party had happened to uncover about the plot to assassinate King Noren tiKalloban. The party was able tell him that the plot of the tiKalloban assassination attempt resembled one committed 30 years ago when the tiKalloban’s daughter was killed. These similarities put the Sarromere family on the top of their list of suspects.
King Horra Asaur-Mantir then extended the hospitality of the kingdom to the party, as well as giving them a writ that allowed them the authority to not only question the last known remaining brother, but detain him if they feel that it was needed. He also told them of a secret underground transportation system below the cities and lands of [[Ancuan] that could carry them quickly to Ishlav. The party decided to take it posthaste to Ishlav, so that they could commence with questioning the last Sarromere brother.
Arriving in Ishlav, they proceeded to the house of the Sarromeres, where they rudely interrogate him. He told them that after the incident 30 years ago he washed his hands of his mother’s plots. Regardless, Orinda informed him that an attempt on Noren tiKalloban’s life had happen, and that it matched the one that happened 30 years ago at the Sarromere hands. Kor Sarromere insisted that there was no link, and told the group to head to their abandoned factories to see for themselves. The group pressed Kor to join them, and after much reluctance he did.
Reaching the factory, the party indeed found it had been shutdown. Yet entering it [[:Phaedre Delanny|Phaedre]] discovered that there were people that were squatting within it. Slyly approaching them, she talked to them about the condition of the factory, as well as the family that owned it. From them she found out that indeed the factory had been closed for about 30 years. She also found out surprisingly that the mother might be still alive, at least as of 2 years ago. She also was able to find out the last location of the mother. After she came back the party, feeling satisfied with Kor’s previous statements, let him go with an advisement not to disappear.
Next, they decided that they would need to track down the ancient Whenith Sarromere if she yet still lives, and see if she can shed any more light on the situation.
