After the party’s adventures in the sewers below tiKalloban Palace, as well as investigating the king’s royal chambers, they decided to rest for the night and plan the trip to Glavis the next day. In the morning it was realized that there was still a few questions to answer before they left Mulen.
They started with the books which they found at the kings murder scene. A more thorough investigation revealed that one of the two books found, the play “I Want to be Your Canary”, had contained something that burst from within the book. Knowing the nature of the device which was used to assassinate the king the party came to the conclusion that the book in fact contained it within and was the method in which the device that killed Noren tiKalloban was smuggled into the palace. Going to the Palace’s Archivist revealed that neither of the two books belonged to the private library, nor any palace library in fact. Questioning the Archivist revealed that by the palace records no package that could contain the books had arrived around the time of the king’s death. The party also received a undamaged copy of the play.
Since only Noren tiKalloban, the Archivist, and the Palace guards who were assigned the duty of guarding the library had access to it, the next logical step seem to be question the guards about when the books were delivered to the library. Going through the list of guards that were posted at the library the party finally came upon one which seemed to be very cagey about the day of Noren tiKalloban murder. Question him revealed that it in fact was not the guard, but an impostor who was posing as the guard using some sort of Numenera cypher. When he tried to make a break for it the party chased after him. Narrowly avoiding injury Orinda was able to successfully disable the imposter. The party not wanting the guards to question the impostor themselves had Gimlock and
placeholder for Steven’s Character quickly took the man away to interrogate, while Orinda and Tawnos covered for them and the impostors disappearance.
Questioning the impostor revealed little, only that a woman was involved with the plot to kill Noren tiKalloban. He also revealed that the was help from within the castle, and the possibility of someone within Malevich’s government being involved. The party also found out the location of the guard that the impostor was posing as. Unfortunately whatever else the man knew went with him when a Numenera device he had implanted in him scrambled his brain, turning it to goo, and killed him.
Orinda and Tawnos went to retrieve the guard, while Gimlock and
placeholder took the body of the impostor to the royal physician to have his body inspected. They were able to find the guard with very little trouble, and found that the man was replaced shortly before Noren tiKalloban’s murder. Orinda made sure to escort the guard to Fidelius Crenwick for the man to be debriefed. Finally the party regrouped and shared what they had learn, which was not very much. What they had uncovered in fact raised more questions then they did answer.
